Controlling Hidden Equipment

Ray uses IR (infrared) to control most equipment. While IR is a widely supported industry standard used to control all kinds of devices, it has the downside of requiring line-of-sight between the remote control and the controlled equipment. That means those of us who like to keep our living rooms neat by hiding unsightly equipment inside a cabinet or behind walls will need an additional solution to control hidden equipment with Ray.

There are two alternatives you can use together with Ray to control equipment that is out of sight: IR Repeaters and IP to IR Relays.

Wi-Fi enabled DIRECTV and DISH receivers do not require direct line-of-sight with Ray. We are working hard to introduce support for more devices over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, so make sure to sign-up for our newsletter at the bottom of this page for updates.
