How to enable and use manual input switching

With some TVs, Ray can’t switch the input for you automatically when you change an activity. Usually this is because instead of a dedicated command for each input, the TV has just one command for scrolling through available inputs. But Ray can’t know when the scroll has reached the correct input—that’s why it needs you to manually scroll through them. With TVs that work this way, Ray will display the buttons you need whenever you change activities.

Enabling Manual Input Switching

During your initial remote setup, Ray will run a few tests to figure out whether your TV handles inputs this way, and adjust Ray’s settings accordingly. But if we don’t get it right the first time around, you can always enable manual input switching in Settings.

1. On Ray’s home screen, tap the Settings icon

2. Tap on "Devices"

3. Tap "TV"

4. Tap the selection under the header "INPUT SWITCHING"
5. You will have two options to choose from - “Manual” and “Manual with Navigation.” Some TVs switch inputs by sending a “Source” or “Input Scroll” command until the right input has been selected. Other TVs will need a “Source” command to be sent to open a list of inputs and require directional commands to select the correct input. If your TV only needs a “Source” or “Input Scroll” and “OK” command, select the “Manual” option. If your TV needs a “Source” and a DPAD, select the “Manual with Navigation” option.

Using Manual Input Switching

Once your input settings for your TV are changed to “Manual” or “Manual with Navigation,” Ray will prompt you to switch inputs manually whenever you change devices or activities.

1. Tap a device icon on Ray’s home screen or a particular program in one of Ray’s apps. If you have enabled “Manual" input switching, proceed to step #2. If you have enabled “Manual with Navigation” input switching, proceed to step #3.

2. When switching inputs, Ray will bring up another pop-up with instructions and two buttons labeled "Source" and "Select Input". Tap the "Source" button repeatedly (or hold down on it) to scroll through your TV’s available inputs until your TV screen shows the correct input for the device you want to use. If your TV requires you to select the input selection, tap the "Select input" button when the TV menu shows the correct input.

3. When switching inputs, Ray will bring up a pop-up with instructions and a “Source,” “Exit,” and directional buttons. Tap on the “Source” button to open your TV’s list of inputs. Use the directional buttons to navigate to the correct input. If your TV requires you to select the input selection, tap the “Select” button when the TV menu shows the correct input. Tap “Exit” to exit out of the TV’s list of inputs.
4. When you’ve successfully switched the input on your TV, tap the “X” button at the bottom to close the pop-up.
