How to adjust the speed delay between infrared (IR) commands

Devices that receive infrared (IR) commands process the commands in different ways. Older equipment may require a longer time between IR commands, while newer equipment can generally receive IR commands in quicker succession.

Your device may miss some of the commands that Ray sends if the delay between each command is too short. For example, your set-top box might not go to the correct channel when Ray sends the channel numbers. The delay can be easily adjusted for each device in Settings. Here's how:

1. Tap the settings icon on your home screen.

2. Tap the list item "Devices."

3. Tap on the the device you'd like to adjust.

4. Tap on the list item "IR Speed."

5. The default delay between sending commands is 200ms for set-top boxes and 12 milliseconds for all other IR-controlled devices. To adjust this delay, hold and drag the slider to the desired amount of milliseconds.

If you are experiencing issues changing channels, experiment with longer delays for your set-top box:

  • U-verse customers, try 300ms
  • Verizon FIOS Quantum customers, try 250ms

If you ever want to restore the delay to the original defaults, just tap the “Restore Default” button at the bottom of the "IR Speed" screen.
